Anyway, Vanyel's really tough because I a) haven't read his books in a while and b)they're pretty complete as they are, I feel.
There is one thing that I can say, though. There's a pretty big mistake throughout the series that always bugged me. In the first book, when Van gets his powers, Savil notes that he received every single power except healing, including the Bardic gift. In the last book somewhere, or perhaps it was the second one, Van ends up with every power except the Bardic gift, including healing. So both Lackey's editor and Lackey messed up. It's my personal canon that he ended up with the Bardic gift, just because it's completely ironic.
